2023 Guatemala Trip Recap

Dear friends and family,

We went back to Guatemala in July 2023. This time, we were serving in Chiquimula in a small, rural community. The community is building a school and recreation areas for kids. We will be doing VBS and construction while there.

2019 Guatemala Trip Recap

Thank you all for your support while we were in Guatemala City.  Our time working with our fellow Wayside Chapel church members and The Potter’s House Guatemala was truly blessed.

We arrived LATE Saturday evening/Sunday morning.  After a quick rest, we were up and ready to tour Antigua, Guatemala.  We toured a coffee plantation and shopped in the markets of the city. Monday morning, we were up early and ready to go to the job sites in the community located near/at the city dump to begin our work. Because of our large group number (28), we were split into three groups and were able to bless three different families with a home.  After a brief introduction to the families and prayer with them, we began our work.  Potter’s House provided a small masonry team to help guide us in our tasks each day.  During our breaks from the house build, we served at Potter’s House and learned about their ministry.

As of family, we decided the most impactful thing while we were there was being able to work side by side with the family that would eventually live in the home.  They had been preparing for months and looking forward to the final product.  Both mother and father of the family were there each day and eagerly chipped in to help with the work. One of the sons even missed school a day so that he could help paint his room.  This created lots of opportunity to love on the family and discuss the Bible (through an interpreter).

The house we built was small in size.  It consisted of two bedrooms (6x6) a main room (10x10) and a tiny bathroom with a kitchen located just outside the house in an enclosed outdoor area. The family went from having freestanding metal walls, a dirt floor and no door to stable cinder block walls, a cement floor and a front door to lock.

Thank you again for your prayers and support. Our family was changed and blessed for having the opportunity to go on this trip.  We can’t wait to go back and see the work God has done!
